Due for release at the end of the week, reviews for Activision’s Call of Duty – World at War have exploded (pun intended) their way on to the internet.

• Gamepro – 90
• Gamezone – 85
• Giant Bomb – 80
• Gamedaily – 80

These scores make quite interesting reading as the game appears to have hit an uncomfortable middle ground of geuine respect and borderline apathy.  It seems that Call of Duty 4 is still the benchmark when it comes to the series and if anything, the fact that this new edition has pulled out all the stops just to mimic its predecessor is what subsequently prevented it from being a true classic.

Still, my pre-order is on its way and I’m pretty excited, though I must admit that I only pre-ordered it after hearing about the Zombie mode.
