The Phantom is coming back to the silver screen after an Australian production company secured the rights.  The movie, which will not be a sequel to the 1996 version starring the dreadful Billy Zane will cost somewhere in the region of $90 million.

Pitched as a remake, the new Phantom movie will explore the origins of the masked jungle crusader.

For those of you who saw the 1996 version, I’m truly sorry for you but don’t let that experience put you off the character.

Expect it in early 2010.
