In 2007 the PS3, it’s fair to say, struggled.  The general consensus best game released was the multi-platform Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and it wasn’t even the best version of the game.

2008 however is a different story, there have been numerous triple A exclusive titles released on the console from the gloriously original Little Big Planet, to the sneaky antics of Solid Snake up to and including the spectacular set-pieces of Resistance 2.

But which game did the websites think was Game of the Year 2008 for the PS3?

And us, what did we think was PS3 game of the year 2008?

Simple; Little Big Planet.

For the sheer amount of originality on display it has to be Little Big Planet.  Okay, it’s a cutesy platformer and that in itself isn’t original but what is original is the level of respect the developers gave us.  They gave us the tools to make the game and they didn’t dumb them down.  They treated us like adults and showed confidence in our collective abilities to think like games developers.

In short, they treated us like one of their own and for that Little Big Planet has to be the game of the year.
