So, they finally revealed the identity of the eleventh Doctor Who and his name is Matt Smith.

Ever heard of him?

Me neither.

So a little background is in order.

Well, he’s 26 and has appeared in a few TV shows, something of an unknown then..

I’ll be honest, this is a bit of a strange casting decision for me.  I can get past the age and the fact that he’s an unknown but for me at least he just doesn’t look like Doctor Who material.

But perhaps that was maybe the point?

The show needed a new direction.  Whoever followed David Tennant had big shoes to fill so instead of finding an actor with the same shoe size the producers probably felt it was better if they threw the shoes out of the window and essentially start again.

Phew, that’s a lot of shoe metaphors there…

Still, I have a bad feeling about Matt Smith.  It makes me think back to how Sylvester McCoy nearly single-handedly ruined the franchise with his interpretation of the Time Lord.

For me I would have liked it to have been at least someone I am vaguely familiar with.  That’s the whole fun of Doctor Who, seeing how each actor can better the last but this casting has now left me kind of numb to the show.  Somehow I don’t care about this next regeneration as much as I have in the past and I can’t help but feel a well of disappointment fill my stomach.

Maybe it’s because I’m a huge fan of Tennant’s Doctor and I am instinctively opposed to change but somehow I think it’s more than that, I really feel that the producers have made a mistake here and time will prove it.
