Capcom have announced their release dates for the next installments in their Street Fighter, Resident Evil and Dead Rising franchises.

Street Fighter 4 is released on February 20th with Resident Evil 5 kicking off on March 13th, while huddled in the middle of those two is Dead Rising Chop Till You Drop on the Wii with it’s February 27th release.

Quite a busy couple of weeks for old Capcom then?

With Resident Evil 5 high on most gamers wanted lists and of course Street Fighter 4 taking the series online with all its graphical splendor, Capcom is releasing some sure-fire Game Of The Year nominees early.  I for one have already pre-ordered my copy of Resi 5 and am likely to buy Street Fighter 4 on Amazon as soon as the price becomes attractive, and as for Dead Rising Chop Till You Drop, well, urrghh…

I feel the need to shake myself.

Dead Rising on the Wii sounds like a terrible idea.  The Xbox 360 original was unique in that it had literally hundreds of Zombies onscreen at the same time.  The sheer amazement I had with that game was due in a big part by how overwhelmed I felt at the sheer numbers of undead shoppers roaming about the mall.

Can the Wii really pull that kind of atmosphere off?

How many Zombies will the Wii be able to show at the same time?

Ten?

Twenty?

Heck, the Wii won’t be able to pull off half of the 360 numbers and therein lies the problem.  Without the hordes of Zombies making the Mall feel claustrophobic this game won’t work.  Sure it will be fun to twat people with the Wii-mote, the combat was fun in the original, but it wasn’t what was holding the game together.  Dead Rising was about volume not violence.
