Samuel L Jackson Out As Nick Fury?

It seems that the role of Nick Fury in the upcoming Marvel films could end up being played by someone other than Samuel L Jackson.

Jackson had this to say on the matter…

“There was a huge kind of negotiation that broke down. I don’t know. Maybe I won’t be Nick Fury. Maybe somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won’t be in it. There seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world so [they're saying to me], ‘We’re not making that deal.’”

Obviously Jackson’s demands are too high high for the studio but I wouldn’t rule out Jackson reprising his role just yet.  Jackson going public with his statement tells me one thing; he’s playing hardball.

He’s testing the waters and hoping that the fan backlash will show Marvel just how important he is to them.

But what if he doesn’t return, would it matter too much?

Well, if they’re going to replace him they should do so now before we get too attached to him as Fury.  So far he’s had two cameos as the character and as cool as those were, they were, at the end of the day; only cameos.

One thing for certain is it’s going to be an entertaining couple of months watching this contract sparring play out, and my personal prediction is that when Iron Man 2 suits up, Sam Jackson will be on set wearing his eye patch.

Worst case scenario though?

The Hoff returns as Fury…
