The boys from the Dwarf are coming back to our TV screens!

Yep, the BBC have commissioned a two-part series of the cult sci-fi classic in which Lister and the crew finally make it back to Earth.

The new series, which is to be aired in the UK over the Easter weekend sees the team reunite for the first time in ten years.

For those of you who are not familiar with the show here’s a quick recap.

A guy gets put into stasis on board a mining space ship and is released three million years later only to find that the entire crew was wiped out while he was safely locked up in stasis.

He is joined on the ship by a hologram of his dead former room mate, a sanitation droid and a life-form that evolved from a cat he smuggled onto the ship before he went into stasis.

The show centers around their joint efforts to get back to Earth.

Oh, and there’s also a talking computer named Holly and his girlfriend popped up in the seventh series which would just take way too much time to go into here.

Am I excited about this news?

Smeg yes.

I was a big fan of the Dwarf when I was younger.  I used to watch them over and over before I went to sleep.  I read all four books and have all the episodes in my DVD collection.  Heck, I even have all the magazines.

This is absolutely the best news I’ve heard all year, last year included.

At first I was sceptical about the return of Red Dwarf but after a couple of months to digest it, my anticipation levels have hit fever pitch.

It’s like I’m a spotty teenager again!
