Smoke Me A Kipper, Red Dwarf Is Back!
The boys from the Dwarf are coming back to our TV screens! Yep, the BBC have commissioned a two-part series of the cult sci-fi classic in which Lister and the crew finally make it back to Earth. The new series, which is to be aired in the UK over the Easter weekend sees the team reunite for the first time in ten years. For those of you who are not familiar with the show here’s a quick recap. A guy gets put into stasis on board a mining space ship and is released three million years later only to find that the entire crew was wiped out while he was safely locked up in stasis….
The Thing Prequel Alert!
News has been circulating for a while now that John Carpenter’s icy classic The Thing is to get a prequel. The project has been written by Battlestar Gallactica mastermind Ron Moore, who also wrote Star Trek: First Contact and a whole bunch of TV Shows including Carnivale. It will be directed by Matthijs Van Heijningen who made his name directing commercials for Toyota and Pepsi amongst others. Rumors suggest that the prequel to the sci-fi masterpiece will center around the experiences of R. J Macready’s brother. Starring Sienna Miller…? Now come on, admit it. Who else thought GI Joe was a bloke? Well I spent pretty much all of my childhood thinking that. Perhaps I can put down my ignorance to the fact that I’m completely uninterested by the army and army-type things (except for some games I guess) so I would probably have turned my attention to my rope swing or my MasterSystem. Apparently GI Joe stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity. I thought GI stood for “Government Issue” for ages, so that’s two illusions shattered with one…movie. Wii Fit to Receive It’s Own Channel!
Nintendo has today unveiled plans that it is planning to make a Wii Fit Body Check Channel that will “correlate player data” and offer “ongoing health and fitness advice”, according to gamesindustry.biz. They claim that this will also provide medical professionals with valuable research data. The first companies are Japanese giants NEC, Panasonic and Hitachi, according to Andriasang, and each will use the data in different ways. NEC plan to use the Channel to get employees and their families fit and healthy whereas Panasonic have decieded to cater for insurance companies and health organisations. As for air dates, NEC and Panasonic hope to go live from April, while Hitachi will roll out sometime next month…
