guy3Although my last blog post was supposed to give you an idea of who I am, I have a feeling it may have been somewhat lacking.  I apologize for that and hope that this post may work towards clearing things up a little.

I have had a really busy week, and I haven’t really found much time to source any new music, I haven’t had the chance to listen to the new dubstep influenced album from Secret Archives of the Vatican but I mean to rectify that as soon as possible.  On a similar note Pete Cogle has just published a new edition of one of my favorite podcasts The Dub(step) Zone, and I hope to give that a whirl soon too.guy-1

You maybe thinking I just listen to music from South London and while Croydon does have a special place in my heart I love listening to lots of different types of music.  I spent a while working as a night club DJ so my tastes are probably a little obscure, add to that the fact I have lived in South America and my tastes ebb further away from what was once available in Woolies (God rest it’s soul).

I keep coming back to listen to The Streets, Mike Skinner’s lyrical exploits always hit the spot for me.  I think (although he is younger than me) we are growing up at the same pace, so when he was clubbing so was I and now, as our years roll on, his tones are a little more metaphysical, and that works for me.   I have heard that Mike’s next album is going to be a return to the bedroom studio rather than the massive productions that his last two albums have been.  Money must have something to do with this, but who cares, if it sounds good it is (or will be) good.

Moving to music created outside of the UK, I have enjoyed listening to Molotov, my Wife put me onto these guys (should I worried about that)?  They are really good fun hiphop, the fact they rap in Spanish makes them even more cool!  I am also a big fan of Clotaire K, his rhythms and rhymes flow so well, it’s hard to not to let them captivate you.guy2

Moving back to groups that British 30somethings are usually fans of, I cannot get enough of The Beastie Boys, and I am really loving the re-issue of Paul’s Boutique.  Keeping it old-school the big dons in my hiphop world will always be Public Enemy.  Basically they have always explained “what goes on” and have been an awesome influence on my life (did I just say that?).

You will have noticed I have given links to twitter pages where possible, I have really gotten into twitter now and I love the fact that some of my musical (and other) idols are truly accessible, if you have any suggestions for people I should add on twitter please drop me a line (follow guydavidcross, or leave a comment here).
