Tomb Raider Now Owned By Final Fantasy!
Tomb Raider publisher Eidos has been sold to Japanese company Square Enix.
Square Enix, best known for its Final Fantasy franchise, has been keen on expanding into the Western market for some time and their buyout of UK developer Eidos is seen as their attempts to own an established western-orientated IP.
With the Tomb Raider name being picked up by Warner Bros for a brand new movie trilogy, the cost of Square Enix’s acquisition, said to be $120 million, could turn out to be an amazing bargain of Ebay proportions.
Even though the Tomb Raider franchise has been struggling lately, $120 million is still an amazing price for what is essentially one of the most well known IP’s in the gaming world.
Let’s just hope they don’t do a Tomb Raider Tactics game.
