GTA 5 To Be Released Next Year?

Michael Pachter, an analyst for Wedbush Morgan, has predicted that GTA 5 will be released next year and will sell more copies that GTA 4.

He actually said; “When the next version of GTA comes out in late 2010 (not yet announced but a reasonable expectation), there should be an installed base of approximately 60 million consoles in the addressable market.  We don’t think it is reasonable to estimate that sales of GTA will double the prior version, but we think that a 25-30% penetration is reasonable, suggesting 15 – 18 million units sold.”

You can’t really argue with that prediction though I can’t help but feel that the downloadable content on the Xbox 360 will have a negative impact on the sequel to GTA 4.

Thing is, one of the best things about being a GTA fan was always the wait.  Waiting 1 1/2 to 3 years for a new Grand Theft Auto built up the expectancy levels amongst gamers to fever pitch.  If GTA 5 comes out as predicted next year, we would have already had three new GTA’s within the last two years (one more DLC pack is planned) so where is the hype going to come from?

Personally I think Mr. Pachter’s estimates are off by at least 30%.

But that’s just my opinion.

How do you think GTA 5 will do?
