Robin Hood Gets A Release Date!
Has everyone heard about Sir Ridley Scotts new film…? It stars a man in tights.
I know what you’re thinking. What would Swan Lake look like if it was mixed with Gladiator?
Well that’s the wrong kind of tights. I’m referring to our very own British-come-Americanised myth that is Mr. Robin Hood. (steals from the rich and gives to the poor, bla bla bla)
According to Empire.com, it now finally has a release date. Yes, you won’t have too long to wait until you see Maximus Decimus Meridius donning the green hat and firing arrows at Paris Hilton.
Universal Pictures today announced that will come out on May 14, 2010.
The thing to mention is that this Robin Hood has somewhat of a weird and interesting twist in that Russell Crowe will be playing both Mr. Hood himself and the good ol’ Sheriff of Nottingham (or Shayriff of Notting-haym, in the US versions…)
To be fair to the Crowe/Scott combo, in 2000 when Gladiator was first screened, it pulled in over $450 million worldwide, and ended up winning Oscars for Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell.
They will of course be competing with the release of Iron Man 2, which is going to have a vast fanbase I’m sure, and Shrek Goes Forth which should pose a little less of a threat. To add to that though, is the fact that the Prince of Persia film is going to be shuffling on screen a few weeks after Robin Hood’s release, so May is going to be a month to look out for. There is also talk of the new Ironbow movie which is currently in pre-prod planning (the story of William Tell, for those who are unfamiliar with the release).
Filming will begin for Robin Hood within the next few months. Watch this space for more news as it comes in.
