The Webling
Hey kids!!
Welcome to week 2 of my new column! Hopefully I’ve managed to get this up and used the kit the guys showed me which allows me to update my own column – either that or I am, as always, purely talking to myself here and will be forever. Cross fingers eh?
So heres some of the gems I’ve come across this week on the net – clicky clicky!
The Show For Geeks. By Geeks. About The Geekiest Thing On Earth.
So if you haven’t heard of webshow “The Guild” by now – where have you been?? Originally posted on its own website you can now see all of Season One on youtube – and even download them as podcasts on your ipod oooh yes (I just got an itouch – more on that later).
Set around a group of people who know each other purely online while playing a MMORPG, very much like World of Warcraft – their adventures start when they are forced to meet IRL when a problem arises. It stars Felicia Day – previously seen in the web phenomenon Dr Horribles Sing-a-long Blog and a few episodes of Buffy – she also wrote and produced the entire thing. The second season has just finished and the third is currently in pre-production.

Don’t I Know You?
This incredible painting – created in 2006 by 3 lesser known Chinese artists – features 103 of the most famous faces in world history. Discussing the Divine Comedy with Dante really is like a giant Wheres Wally, but here you should recognise most of the faces, not just the one. Although you’d be forgiven for not recognising some of the chinese faces – like the Chinese hurdler who limped out of the Beijing Olympics in the summer – as many of these aren’t well known outside of the artists’ homeland. My favourites that I’ve spotted so far are Bill Gates, Mike Tyson, and what looks like Data from Star Trek… but it can’t be.. can it?

Rather Good Rather Good
Remember that Crusha ad on TV last year? Or was it the year before? Well the bloke who made it, Joel Veitch, has is own web-universe called Rathergood. Ring any bells? B3ta and Newgrounds absolutely quiver at his feet. He makes regular monstrosities like the infamous Kitten War and W*nky-sh*t Demon (enough stars there guys?) and features them on his mind-rottingly bizarre website – Rathergood. Check it out if you tend to have the sort of sense of humour that your friends will never understand.

Funky Film
I’m really really really really looking forward to this film. To keep me going till its release I go on the website. Richard Curtis can already do no wrong in my eyes – but to create a film based entirely around radio DJs? Starring Bill Nighy, Rhys Ifans AND Nick Frost?? URRGH.. this is MY film.
This is a really well made site for such a small film. Love it!

Touch Me
I have actually bought an ipod. My first ever I might add. Well, the shuffle my dad got me for xmas a million years ago doesn’t count as it never worked and is now lost forever. This isn’t even a new one though, I still can’t bring myself to do that. It used to be my sisters, so its a bit scratched and pocketyfied but its awwwwssooommmeee. WHEN the wireless in my house works I’ve been spending hours and hours downloading apps, games and podcasts, then enjoying them all day at work. It’s actually made the tedious bumhole I work in a bit fun!
So I’ve had Mr Poddy a few weeks now and here is my so-far guide on whats the goodest in itouch world..
Apps
Best so far include Word Warp – I can only call it word wrap out loud, god knows why, my brain is broke perhaps. But this game is your basic heres-some-letters-make-as-many-words-as-you-can dooby wotsit. But its addictive! * twitches * Its available on free apps through the touch now – go get it!
Another free app thats bloody marvelous is Tap Tap Revenge 2. Its pretty much Guitar Hero for the itouch, but with lesser known bands such as Weezer (yeah I know they’re huge but they’re the most famous on it and only have a Christmas song featured) and Stroke 9. This doesn’t matter as the game play is fantastic and so hypnotic. For a free app its amazing. If someone said to me I’d have to pay a quid to keep it now I would.
The ONLY app I’ve paid for so far is Pocket God. It was 59p when I got it and is said to get more expensive as the clever clogs at the application factory update it more and more. The best apps, I’ve discovered, are those that get better the longer you own them. The developers seem to change this weekly with extra things you can do to the little Islanders, and its just bloody brilliant… oh and totally adorable – even if it technically is mass murder. Its cute mass murder.
Another couple of gems are two brilliant podcasts I always HAVE to get.
The Best of Chris Moyles, which is annoyingly only weekly. And Scott Mills Daily which is totally fab – Scott Mills is MY Pocket God. True story.
Video Of The Week – Vidiotic
Not technically a viral, but its available online so it counts. I stumbled upon this amazing new show on late night BBC 3, and I can honestly say I have not felt as much of an affinity with a TV programme since Spaced (my all time favourite show – fact). Its so funny and clever and the references blow your mind. Watch this episode that features actual real life Biff from Back to the Future, singing a song in a park on an acoustic guitar. Wonderful. These iplayer videos usually have a live span of about a week on streaming, so download it and save it for later if you can’t watch it now. You won’t regret it I promise.

Blog Of The Week – Tiny Art Director
Bored graphic artist decides to ask his 2 year old daughter to come up with ideas for what he can draw next. Hilarity ensues. She’s so mean! But amazing.
