No, there aren’t gonna be any Jade Goody jokes. I am however starting a line of ‘Don’t stick it to the Shetty’ T-Shirts.

One major tragedy for sci-fi fans this week however has been the final episode of Battlestar Galactica being aired. The last ever episode of the series pulled in 324,000 viewers in the UK for Sky 1 which is a pretty impressive figure. I’ll admit, and I’ll be chastised for this I’m sure, this is the one show I missed – my sky plus box is only so big and my hard drive is full of ‘other items’; but I’ve been reliably informed by friends of mine that it was, and I quote, ‘up there with 24 as the best show on TV’. I’ll have to try and grab the box sets, maybe I’ll pre-order the final season at amazon for a very reasonable £24.98!!

425dollhouse051508So in my first column I reviewed the new Joss Whedon effort ‘Dollhouse’. Well good news for all those who were hoping to follow the show in the UK – the UK Sci-Fi Channel has picked up the show. Sci-Fi announced at the end of last week that it would broadcast the series in from May 19th.

Just to recap, ‘Dollhouse’ is the show where the characters are essentially a blank canvass, having abilities imprinted onto their brains to achieve specific goals for Max Clifford…no, hold on…ummm, it’s kinda similar though. (Ok, maybe the one joke)

In Addition, Sci-Fi UK have also grabbed the rights to the remake of ‘Night Rider’. Hopefully ‘Kit’ will still have the voice of England footballer John Barnes for the series. The show didn’t go down particularly well in the US but neither did Paris Hilton on watching her video; and yet she seems to be doing well in the UK at present.

Both shows have been secured for their 13-episode first seasons, and the agreement also includes the renewal of repeat rights to seasons one to five of Whedon’s ‘Buffy’ spinoff ‘Angel’ which already airs on the channel.

star-trek-perfume-cologne-red-shirt-762720-762744Get this. A collectibles company has announced the launch of three fragrances based on Star Trek. Mental.

‘Tiberius’ and ‘Red Shirt’ are designed for men, while ‘Ponn Farr’ is a perfume for women, website ‘TrekMovie’ reports.

Tiberius, which has ‘top notes of citron zest and black pepper’, is inspired by the middle name of Captain James T. Kirk obviously.

Makers Genki Wear said of the fragrance: “Tiberius Cologne for men is difficult to define and impossible to refuse.” Oh my god, that’s almost a cheesy as ‘Panther’ working ‘60% of the time, every time’.

‘Red Shirt’ boasts ‘top notes of green mandarin and bergamot’ and is inspired by the short-lived cannon fodder on away missions. Can I first point out that I’ve no idea what ‘top notes’ are; I assume it can’t be some high pitched sound only dogs can hear by some ‘American Idol’ contestant. Also, why would you want to smell like a loser who’s biggest acting role is ‘lasered man no.4’. Hold on, that actually does sound like a decent fragrance.

Genki Wear said that it is aimed at those with a “devotion to living each day as it could be your last”. I assume they mean crying, ringing up all your friends and relatives telling them you love them, and slowly drifting off to sleep. That’s just a normal drunk Saturday night for me, and probably cheaper.

Ponn Farr is named after a Vulcan mating ritual and is designed to “drive him wild”. My mating ritual on the other hand involves Rohypnol and is designed to ‘drive them to sleepy town, first stop blanket street.’

The fragrances do however sound like pretty cool birthday gifts for all your geek friends!

Now this is pretty exciting, BBC One’s ‘Tonight’s The Night’ is offering ‘Doctor Who’ fans the chance to win a role as an alien! One viewer will appear in a specially-written scene which is to be shot on the set of the Tardis.

Viewers over 18 are invited to submit an application featuring a photograph of them in their home-made alien costume, along with information about their alien, such as where it is from and its characteristics. I can’t wait to see this. A group of 50 applicants will then be selected to meet a panel including John Barrowman and ‘Doctor Who’ casting director Andy Pryor.

The completed scene will then be broadcast in the final episode of ‘Tonight’s The Night’ later this spring.

My character is from the planet Familia Fortuna, and his characteristics are entertaining pensioners. I’m calling him Bobby Davros.

Four months after separating from her husband of nearly twenty years, ‘CSI Las Vegas’ actress Marg Helgenberger, 50 has filed for divorce. Not news per say but let’s just say – I’d love to. She’s definitely a ‘mother I’d love to dine each week’ – or a Mildew.

reddwarfcastSo lastly, something cool. To promote the new Red Dwarf ‘Back To Earth’ series on UKTV channel Dave, an Alternate Reality Game (ARG) has been created! Friday 10th April sees the return of the Cult Sci-Fi show for a 3 part special that sees Lister, Rimmer, Kryten and Cat returning to Earth for the first time. In advance of that the online game has been created to wet our appetites!

Basically, its an online treasure hunt for clues and hidden links across multiple websites which will slowly reveal exclusive content. The game kicks off from an online postcard from the last human in the universe, Dave Lister, who explains that there has been a last minute problem, caused by mixing curry with the communication system.

This has lead to the crew becoming separated and forced to communicate through the website of an unsuspecting astronomer called Dr Bob Giles. Players will view the crew’s communications with each other — including a ‘holo-message’ from Kryten — and will also use the ‘Cat Nav’ to reveal the location of the crew’s long-awaited re-union via a satellite location puzzle using Google Earth.

You can start playing by visiting http://www.listerscominghome.co.uk.

Awesome!!!

Y'all are too lucky. I wish Sci-Fi in the states played Angel…

And from someone who's seen Dollhouse from the beginning: Do NOT give up on it. I've had friends who didn't care for it when it started, but one just has to have faith (lawl, Buffy joke/reference) in the show. It's getting insanely good.
