Spider-man will finally get a spinoff movie and it seems that Venom will be the focus.

Yep, they’re making a movie based on Venom.

Isn’t that good news or what?

Sony have given the writing duties to Zombieland writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese and the pair have been talking to reporters about the gig.

“We had a really good relationship with Sony on Zombieland, and so that was a nice in for us there,” said Reese to the group of reporters. “It gave us a leg up.”

Both writers are self-confessed fans of Venom, not like Sam Raimi, who had Venom forced on him by the studio even though he’d stated that he didn’t like the character.

Plot details are pretty thin on the ground at the moment so it remains unclear if the new Venom movie will build upon the origin story seen in Spider-Man movie, or will be a completely fresh take on the character. A character reboot if you like…

Anyway, it’s one to look out for.
