Behind The Screen
Well I have some mighty fine geek news for you this week for both trekkies and fans of ‘Fringe’. Spock is strongly rumored to be beaming on to the series!
Trekkies not already watching “Fringe” on FOX or Sky1 will likely rethink that decision come next month when, “Star Trek” legend Leonard Nimoy will apparently join the show as William Bell, the founder of Massive Dynamic and Walter’s Harvard lab partner from back in the day. With the character of William Bell expected to recur repeatedly in season two, that would mean Nimoy has signed on for his first long term live action television role in 40 years or so.
Though FOX has not yet confirmed the casting, fringetelevision.com reports that several of the show’s writers and producers are saying we’ll meet Nimoy’s Bell in “Fringe”‘s May 12th season finale. The news is given creedance with the fact that Nimoy has already collaborated with the show’s producers J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman twice this year as they’re the men behind this spring’s “Star Trek” movie, in which Nimoy will reprise his role as Spock.
I’ve followed the series on Sky1 and have enjoyed it without getting particularly carried away with it, so this could be the pick up it needs ratings wise in order for a sustained run and therefore better character development – namely for Joshua Jackson (Peter) and John Noble’s (Walter) characters who seem to have some scope but have yet to be fully explored in my opinion.
What with this and Chevy Chase and Scott Bakula returning to screens on ‘Chuck’ the geek legend revival is on!
Most of you in the UK have probably noticed the change from Paramount Comedy to Comedy Central on Sky this past week, followed by a host of ‘first shows’ for us Brits with the latest series’ of ‘Scrubs’, ‘Two and a Half Men’ and ‘South Park’ hitting our screens. Hopefully we are slowly catching up with our American cousins so we won’t have to spend our valuable time trying to keep up online! Here’s hoping
The future looks grim for ‘Reaper’. (Puns rule)
Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, the creators and exec producers of The CW’s ‘Reaper’ have signed a seven-figure, two-year deal with 20th Century Fox TV, which calls for them to leave the supernatural comedy that’s not yet been given the go-ahead for a third season. It was previously announced that Tyler Labine, who plays best friend Sock on the show and probably the best character, has signed on to star in a Fox pilot. Like Jackie Stallone, It doesn’t look good….
Now here’s a story – legendary US TV comedy series Seinfeld is set to go XXX later this year when it gets turned into a porn parody.
Hot on the heels of porn comedy ‘masterpiece’ ‘Scrubs: A XXX Parody’ X-rated filmmaker Lee Roy Myers is currently filming ‘Seinfeld: A XXX Parody’.
Myers said: “It makes my job look easy when I get to work with an amazingly talented group who can pull off the hot sex and comedic acting. It just doesn’t get better than that.” Scrubs I can see. Hot young cast on the show, the whole nurses thing etc. fair enough; but George Costanza having sex? Noooohhooooooo
A show I’ve been following and really enjoying of late, ‘Life’, ended its season Wednesday night on NBC’s and seems stuck in limbo. The show hasn’t had huge ratings, and with big schedule changes on the horizon at NBC with Jay Leno moving to a 10pm slot, the show may be cut.
Creator Rand Ravich said “You know, it’s a crazy time in television. NBC is kind of figuring itself out, and those questions are certainly above my pay grade. But I do feel like I’ve always felt … that creatively, we get tremendous support at the studio and network.” Hopefully the show will stay for at least another season as it provides something slightly different from the majority of ‘cop’ shows and Damien Lewis’ acting is as good as ever. Cut some reality show crap NBC!
So, as stated for the last few weeks, the return of ‘Red Dwarf’ is upon us! There are a few more links below to the DaveTV online channel which has been putting up little games and tasters for the last few weeks in the build up to the shows
This week’s goodies include an exclusive video entitled Lister On The Street plus, Robert Llewellyn’s Red Dwarf: Back to Earth blog and Red Dwarf: the story so far – a Dwarf history lesson
Forget sky plus – you just need me. The shows are on -
Red Dwarf: Back To Earth (part 1): Dave, Friday 10 April, 9pm
Red Dwarf: Back To Earth (part 2): Dave, Saturday 11 April, 9pm
Red Dwarf: Back To Earth (part 3): Dave, Sunday 12 April, 9pm
Red Dwarf: The Making Of Back To Earth: Dave, Sunday 12 April, 10pm
Also don’t forget Dr Who ‘Planet of the Dead’ this Easter weekend at 6:45 on BBC 1; when a London bus takes a detour to an Alien world – and its not a newly housed Polish community.
Lastly, not really TV news per say, but something I was drawn to watch this week. Ski jumping legend Eddie “the Eagle” Edwards has had plastic surgery on TV to chisel his chin. What a sentence.
Eddie, who came last at the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary, but In typical British fashion was hailed a hero for being so pathetic; went under the knife for a makeover on TV show ‘Wags World Sporting Icons’ on WeddingTV. He also had eye surgery so he won’t need those stupid glasses either.
Now I know what you’re thinking, and no, I don’t regularly watch the show, or WeddingTV ok??? But c’mon, the idea of seeing Eddie the Eagle being cut open with a knife in any shape or form sounds pretty good Tv to me.
Eddie is now a plasterer and has been married to wife Sam for six years.
He said after the operation that he feels ten years younger – which is a shame because that means he has ten extra years of being former sporting joke who is now a plasterer.
Enjoy your Easter weekend folks. I was going to drive somewhere for a break like many of you, but the Sat Nav I bought to help me has one of those stupid celebrity voices on it that’s already getting on my nerves. Bloody Steven Hawking

I have just sent this to my friends who also share the same views on this.
I've also heard the third season of Reaper may not happen. I kinda hope it doesn't as apart from Sock, the rest of it is already down the proverbial toilet.
I love Life too. I've now watched what is possibly the end of Life and it makes me sad. I hope they do renew the series as the last episode made brilliant viewing.
