The Singing Detective was the last time anyone saw Gibson don his acting garb and take to the screen, back in ’03. But now he has decided to make a comeback, with a starring role in crime drama Edge of Darkness from director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale), and a new still has been released.

The film’s premise is simple;  Gibson plays a homicide cop who witnesses the death of his daughter (Bojana Novakovic) and sets out to catch the killers, uncovering a larger conspiracy in the process.

Talking to Empire, Gibson said: “He’s a seasoned old detective, a bit hangdog. And he’s in a state of shock for most of the film, because he’s had tremendous trauma right at the beginning of it.”
