The Cheapskate Geek – Top 5 Free Applications
This week I wanna take a look at some of the best free applications online.
I am going to ignore some of the more obvious choices, so if you haven’t heard of Firefox, AVG or AVira Antivirus, or even good old winamp, spend some time on Google saving yourself a few pesos.
In the order that I think of them.
1. Tweetdeck This awesome piece of software will help you make sense of Twitter if you are struggling to get your head around it, it will also let you use and abuse the whole host of websites that support Twitter. Tweetdeck is great for keeping an eye on topics you want to see the latest updates on (#uksnow anyone?).
2. FileZilla Dont ever, under any circumstance, pay for software to move file
s around the internet before trying Filezilla. I have seen adverts this week for software from huge companies that are a tenth of effective and easy to use as FZ.
3. Paint.NET I use this program a lot, but I am not an expert – Dragon Blogger – has this to say about it:
This program has enormous amount of functionality for a freeware program and is very similar to Paint Shop Pro 8 in its ease of use and style. Thought not quite as powerful as Adobe Photoshop, it has a much easier learning curve and flexible tools to get the job done.
4. Google Earth Regular readers will know I am quite a fan of Google’s products. Althought I think Google will turn out to be evil in the end, I have to admit they are damn usefull and this prgram is a whole world of fun. Geek out and search for the hidden flight-sim
5. Cube Runner Finally, and by every means least this program looks really cool. I am in love with the retro Star Wars game styling and I just wish I had an iPhone iTouch to play it on!
What’s your favour freebie?
