Crank: High Voltage star Jason Statham has signed on to play the title role in the remake of the Mechanic.

The Brit actor will take on the role that Charles Bronson made famous back in 1972.

The plot sees Statham as an assassin who trains the son of one of his victims.

Simon West will direct.
