Byte Size!

By Jay

Hello and welcome to Byte Size, with me your host for the evening, Jay.

Anyway, like I said, welcome to my new weekly column here on Nerdles.com. Okay, I suppose this is the part where I tell you what my column is all about, so I will, video games!

Yep, once a week I’m going to force upon y’all my ill-informed opinions about the going’s ons’ in the video game industry.

Right, where to start?

Okay…

Grand Theft Auto Coming For PSP.

gta chinatown warsI suppose I’ll lead with the news that Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars is gonna get a PSP port. I’ve got only one thing to say about that piece of news…

So what?

I mean, c’mon, PSP owners are getting screwed here. Okay, I’ll concede that the Chinatown Wars is a good game, but is it simply a good game for the DS?

Will porting it over to the PSP severely expose its limits? And what about the touch screen mini-games that the DS version used, what’s going to happen to them? I must admit that hotwiring a car with the stylus was a stroke of genius on the DS, what can the PS do to match that?

Nope, I just don’t see anything good coming from this port…

New Duke Nukem Game In Development.

duke nukemWhat about Duke Nukem?

It was reported earlier in the week that there is a new Duke Nukem game in development and it’s not the mythical Duke Nukem Forever. Not much is known about this secret project other than the fact that it’s being developed by a “famous” game developer.

Personally I don’t want to see anymore Duke Nukem games. The recent Matt Hazzard exposed for me how dated the concept of a self-depreciating-80’s-action-hero-shooter actually is. A couple of years ago we would have probably loved Matt Hazzard’s one-liners and wacky gameplay but the thing is, the times have changed, video game humor has evolved and I’m afraid that characters like Duke Nukem have no place in today’s industry.

Splinter Cell: Conviction Xbox 360 Exclusive.

splinter cell convictionMicrosoft really stuck it to the Playstation 3 this week with the news that Splinter Cell: Conviction is absolutely exclusive to their Xbox 360 system.

Yep, there’s none of that timed exclusivity bullshit we get lately, nope, if you want to play Splinter Cell: Conviction then you’re going to have to do so on the 360, which, I must admit, makes me feel sorry for all the PS3 owners out there.

Although, after Activision’s recent statement about pulling out of developing for the PS3, it got me thinking about the health of Sony’s console.

I mean, just how bad is it over there in the Sony offices that they lost out on Splinter Cell: Conviction, which now could genuinely be described as a system seller?

With more and more analysts losing face with false predictions of a PS3 price-cut that Sony are unwilling to yield to, it can be only a matter of time before those very analysts start predicting the actual demise of the console, which the public at large will eat up causing the PS3 to die a premature death.

But anyway, I must dash now, got things to do. Hopefully you’ll tune in next week when with luck the news will be a little heavier.

All that’s left for me to say is, chow for now Amigos!
