The Popcorn Files!

By Sock

Hello and welcome to The Popcorn Files with me, your host for the evening; Sock.

stan leeStan Lee To Play Larry King

Marvel have announced that Stan Lee is to play Larry King in Iron Man 2. I hope you are all with me when I say, wwWWWHHhhaaattt?

What’s wrong with getting Larry King to play Larry King?

It’s not as if he hasn’t played himself before and I must admit, whenever I’ve seen him playing himself on screen he’s done a pretty good job of it.

I still shudder when I think of Lee’s cameo in Iron Man when he turned up as Hugh Heffner.

Why does Stan Lee have to turn up in all the major comic book adaptations?

Okay, I geddit, he created most of them, but should that qualify him to just appear in every adaptation they make?

No. Fuck off Stan. I respect what you’ve done for comics but seeing you in the movies just takes me out of the fantasy the movie makers are trying so hard to create.

If I was Jon Favreau and Stan Lee kept bugging me for a part, hang on, let’s tangent here, old Stan doesn’t just want a cameo this time, he wants a fucking speaking part, anyway, if I was Favreau I’d do a Seinfeld and schedule Stan’s part for after 7pm.

That would get rid of him.

uncharted1 300x168 The Popcorn Files!Uncharted The Movie

The news that there’s an Uncharted movie in the works has got me all excited.

The thought of a proper Indiana Jones-style adventure is pretty exciting, especially now that old Indy is no longer reliable as an entertaining adventurer.

Seriously, if handled properly Uncharted could be the next Romancing the Stone/Raiders of the lost Ark.

johnny deppJohnny Depp Wants A Part In The Next Batman Movie

Is anyone else fed up with Johnny Depp or is it just me?

The thought of Depp showing up in the next Batman movie just makes me cringe.

I don’t care who he wants to play, I just don’t want him near the project.  Johnny Depp is just way too famous for any sort of role in the follow-up to Dark Knight.

I want whatever bad guy they decide to go with to be played by an actor that I didn’t see coming.

Much like when Nolan cast Ledger as the Joker, that came completely out of left field.  It was risky casting and that’s what I want next time, I want the casting to contain risks and Depp just isn’t a risk.

Anyway…

Some quick remake news.

  • Fright Night, that vampire-next-door flick from the 80’s is to be remade in 3D. Yep, the producers obviously feel that we’re not going to go to the movies and watch a simple remake. No, it’s gotta be a 3D remake. Seriously, why? Fright Night doesn’t really top the list of movies that need a 3D incarnation. Now a 3D Phantasm remake, well, that’s something totally different…
  • A remake of An American Werewolf In London. Are you serious? What’s the point? Though I suppose it depends totally on how they play this one, if they go for tongue-in-cheek then they’re only going to get negative comparisons with the original but if they go for an all-out gore-fest then maybe they’ll have something on their hands. Personally, I hope this is not the start of an An American Werewolf in <insert location HERE> franchise. Please God no!
  • The Old Boy remake is in trouble, well, more trouble that it’s already in anyway. The fact that Will Smith and Steven Spielberg are behind it is trouble enough but, a new problem has surfaced and it lies with the rights to film. In short, Spielberg and Smith thought they had them but they don’t. Someone else does. Hah!

Thoughts of the week…

  • So, Michael Jackson is dead. Um, that’s it, I just figured it was compulsory to mention it.
  • Corey Feldman has stated that he would sign up for any Goonies sequel. Of course he would, what else has he got to do with himself?
  • And finally, here’s an idea for an X-Men spinoff, how’s about a Rogue spinoff? A recent poll conducted by MTV revealed that 30% of all who took part in the poll wanted the next X-Men spinoff to be a Deadpool one, this despite Fox almost ruining the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Me, I don’t want to see that one, I want to see what happened to Rogue after she gave up her powers in X-Men 3. I can see it now, Rogue settling down to a normal life where she opens a cafe and meets a sports agent who’s deeply in love with her yet has issues. Brilliant!

So, that’s all folks.

Adios!
