Routh’s Time As Superman Is Over!
Brandon Routh has revealed that his contract with Warner Bros to play Superman has come to its end, though the actor still expressed his desire to return to the cape should Warner Bros need him in any sequel.
It has been heavily rumored that Warner Bros have been looking to rebooting the franchise in a darker tone, a move firmly away from Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns which critically wasn’t well received.
That Routh has expressed an interest in donning the blue tights in any future installments should be seen as wishful thinking by the actor as execs over at Warner must realize that a successful reboot of the franchise should have no ties to the originals in any way whatsoever.
Although nothing solid has been annouced for any more Superman movies, the rumors currently doing the rounds hint at The Wachowski’s being given the directorial duties, thanks in no small part to their solid adaptation of another beloved comic book property V for Vendetta.
Also, depspte the Matrix sequels generally being regarded as, well, shit, one of their saving graces was the way they handled Neo’s aerial combat scenes. The guys can obviously do flying and action, and they’ve proved they can handle dark content, so it seems logical that they’ll be given a shot at a darker Superman movie.
All of this means that Brandon Routh has absolutely no chance of ever donning the cape again for a Superman movie.
Which, in my book, is good news.
