Behind The Screen!
Hi folks, welcome to another week of news!
Well I don’t know about you but I think it’s disgusting they’ve been showing the moonwalk all week on TV so close after Jacko’s death. It’s actually surprising how the conspiracy theories tie up between the two events. With both, it’s debatable whether they were on the same planet as us. Also, one was apparently a mock-up created on a Hollywood stage, the other a fuck-up cremated in a pine-wood cage. Interestingly, both parties have also used monkeys to practice with as opposed to humans.
So in Tv news this week…
The big news is that Channel Five has acquired ‘FlashForward’, mentioned here previously as the sci-fi drama touted as the successor to ‘Lost’.
To recap, the series follows the aftermath of an event that causes the entire world to black out for two minutes and 17 seconds. During this time everyone sees a snapshot of their life on a specific date six months in the future.
Five has acquired the exclusive UK terrestrial and digital rights for the show. ‘FlashForward’ will air this autumn on its terrestrial network, Five, with repeat showings on the digital channel Fiver. The first 13 episodes of the show will debut in the US on ABC on 24 September.
“I am delighted we will be the UK broadcaster of this gripping new series,” said Jeff Ford, managing director of digital channels and acquisitions at Five. “When we saw the pilot at the LA Screenings this year, we knew it would be perfect for our channels and make a fantastic addition to our autumn lineup.”
Let’s get excited, we’re actually not going to be a year behind a hot new series in the UK!
Jorja Fox is making a return to ‘CSI:Las Vegas’, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The actress, who plays Sara Sidle in the crime drama, will appear in five episodes of the upcoming tenth season, which will begin in the US on September 24th.
Sidle was last seen in CSI in William Petersen’s final episode, when she reunited with Grisson in Costa Rica and got all loved up. There are currently no plans for Petersen to return to the series, which begs the question – have they split up? Did Grissom find some sort of giant Moth in the Costa Rican jungle and eloped with it? Personally, I was sick of their non-believable love affair and was glad to see the back of her; but then forbidden romance isn’t a strong point of mine unless you count sheep. In which case I’m Welsh so it’s less forbidden, more encouraged.
Anyhow, executive producer Carol Mendelsohn said “We’re thrilled for Jorja’s return to CSI”. “The viewers and longtime CSI fans will be excited to discover where life has taken Sara Sidle and what brings her back to the CSI team in Las Vegas in our premiere episode.”
Also, and I’ll put this in as I don’t really see it as a spoiler, this season will apparently launch a new season-long serial killer storyline, where a brand new nemesis will emerge with a very unique way of killing. Very interesting…
As I’m sure you’ve seen wherever you may be, filming for the new series of ‘Doctor Who’ with 99 Ice-cream haircut boy Matt Smith, has got underway in Cardiff.
The fifth series sees the newly-regenerated Doctor meet a new companion, Amy Pond, played by Scottish actress Karen Gillan; who is rapidly changing my opinion that all gingers should be quarantined.
“I feel very privileged and proud to be part of this iconic show,” said Smith. “The scripts are brilliant and working alongside Karen, Steven and the rest of the crew is an inspiration because their work ethic and passion for the show is so admirable. I’m excited about the future and all the brilliant adventures I get to go on as the Doctor.”
New showrunner Steven Moffat said: “Matt and Karen are going to be incredible, and ‘Doctor Who’ is going to come alive on Saturday nights in a whole new way – and best of all, somewhere out there, a seven-year-old is going to see them, fall in love, and start making a forty year plan…”
Smith takes over from David Tennant in the iconic role at the end of three specials, the last of which airs early in 2010.
Filming on the 13-episode fifth series runs until March 2010 for broadcast next Spring.
‘24’ has been named the most addictive television show of all time by users of LoveFilm.com
The Kiefer Sutherland-led series beat off competition from ‘Lost’ and ‘Friend’s to claim top position in the poll, winning by 3,000 votes.
The drama, which began in 2001, secured 19% of the votes, while ‘Lost’ placed second with 17%. Hit US sitcom ‘Friends’ rounded out the top three with 10%.
‘Heroes,’ ‘The Wire’, ‘Doctor Who’, ‘CSI’, ‘Prison Break’ and ‘The Sopranos’ charted from fourth to ninth respectively. HBO comedy ‘Sex And The City’ came in at tenth, capturing only 2% of the votes.
Like all polls it’s all relative, how can a show that’s only been around a few years outdo a ‘Doctor Who’ for instance? But hey, winning a LoveFilm.com poll isn’t exactly gonna make its way to Kiefer’s mantlepiece is it?
In un-geek-related news, I couldn’t resist adding this story about former football manager and pundit Ron Atkinson. Ron has signed up to star in a new episode of ‘Celebrity Wife Swap’, reports The Sun.
The ex-Manchester United boss, who was forced to leave ITV after a race row in 2004, will spend a week living with athlete Tessa Sanderson. How awesome is this likely to be? The poor guy, he’s no more rascist than Daley Thompson, but surely this is all set for David Brent style social faux pa’s as he’s just like any granddad from that generation – too naïve to realise the words he grew up with aren’t acceptable anymore; however unintended.
Atkinson’s wife Maggie and Sanderson’s partner Densign White will also share a home for seven days.
“Big Ron will have to be on his best behaviour with Tessa,” said a source. “If he puts even so much as a finger out of line she’ll come down on him like a ton of bricks. And he will know by now that her fiancé Densign White is a former judo champion.”
The show will air on Channel 4 in August. I’ll be there.
Finally, I’ve decided to add a paragraph or so to let you know one or two programmes I’ll be watching each coming week.
‘You Have Been Watching’ has been on for the last few weeks on Channel 4 on Tuesday nights at 10pm. The show fronted by acid tongued Charlie Brooker has been excellent so far, particularly this past weeks episode featuring the equally marvellously offensive Frankie Boyle. It’s very hot on the heels of the more lauded panel show ‘Mock the Week’ so give it a go!
‘True Blood’ continues on FX on Friday at 10pm, the shows debut did pretty well last week in terms of viewing figures, and for those following it for the first time – it gets better too. Oh and tell your mum and or nan to be careful – I told mine to give it a go and the sex scenes have taken a few years off her I think..
‘Chuck’ continues on Monday on Virgin 1 at 10pm. The second series has shaped up to be as fun as the first and of course Yvonne Strahovski is hotttt.
The penultimate episode of ‘Sons of Anarchy’ airs on Bravo on Tuesday at 10pm so we should be in for a good build up to the finale. A love triangle seems to be brewing, as does miss feisty chops FBI Agent Stahl’s anger – and I can’t wait for Katey Sagel to give her an ass whooping!
That’s it for this week, see you next!
