Doctor Who star David Tennant has denied reports that he will be playing Bilbo Baggins in Guillermo Del Torro’s upcoming The Hobbit.

Tennant, who apparently was up against Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy to play the wandering Hobbit has quickly put to bed the rumors which are linking him to the role.

The Scottish thesp had this to say…

“The Internet is a curious place, isn’t it? I think someone sits in their bedroom in Saskatchewan and comes up with an idea and they post it, (Pretty much sums me up). And within minutes it’s around the world and I’m getting phoned up by journalists and friends of mine saying, “When are you off to shoot with Guillermo?. It’s not something I know anything about. No one’s talked with me. Though, I’m a bit tall aren’t I? I know they do things with CGI now, but I’m 6’1. Hobbits are little. I do have quite hairy toes, though.”

So, Tennant hasn’t been approached for the role then?

That’s pretty gutting. Tennant, despite his height, would make a perfect Bilbo. Out of the three names that have been put forward, Tennant is the only one I am excited about. For me, if either Radcliffe or McAvoy get the role then I probably won’t bother with the Hobbit as I have a deep personal dislike for both actors and despite how much I enjoyed The Hobbit as a book, my dislike of them pair outweighs my fondness for the source material.
