New Blair Witch Sequel On The Way!
According to Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick, the creators of The Blair Witch project, we’re going to get a true sequel to the 1999 horror movie phenomenon.
Forget Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, that was nothing more than a cash-in. Don’t believe me?
Read what Myrick and Sanchez had to say to the BBC…
Up first is Myrick…
“We felt a little betrayed [About Book of Shadows] because we wanted to let the Blair Witch hype die down a little because it was so out of control and there was a bit of backlash.
“But they wanted to strike while the iron was hot and they went ahead and made the movie for what we thought were all the wrong reasons. We felt that the story of that movie broke the mythology.”
At this point, Sanchez pipes in…
“We don’t feel too responsible for that movie, because we had very little to do with it once we stated our objection to where it was headed. At the same time, it does have the Blair Witch name on it.
“Ideally, each new Blair Witch film could be a completely different kind of movie. We’ve thought about doing a film that takes place in the late 1700′s and looks like a Kubrick movie with gritty-looking people and lighting.
“But now, we’re thinking about going back and seeing what happened directly after the first film finished. I think it will have some kind of video element in it, but it won’t be a first person hand-held movie.”
So, they’re thinking of a prequel and a sequel…
I say, why not give us both?
For those of you who saw the original movie but did not see the documentary that released just before the movies’ theatrical release, here’s a little treat for y’all.
Called: The Curse of the Blair Witch, it’s an amazing documentary about the legend of the Blair Witch that the filmmakers made as a companion piece to their movie. And in my opinion, if you have never watched the Curse of the Blair Witch, and have only watched the movie, then you’re only getting half the story.
This documentary is what made me a Blair Witch fanboy, the movie was just icing on the cake…
