When Okami was released on the PS2 a couple of years back, a lot of people likened it to the Zelda games, some in fact thought it better than the best Zelda games, me?

I fall somewhere in-between in that while I can appreciate that it’s a classic, it never felt like a classic when I played it.

Anyway, for those of you who are perhaps unfamiliar with Okami, take a quick look at the video…

So, everybody is up to speed on Okami now?

Right, a sequel has been rumored for a while now and where the smart money would have been on the sequel appearing on say, the Wii or Xbox 360/PS3, Capcom have thrown everyone a curve-ball by releasing it on the Nintendo DS.

Pah!

See, I wanted to like Okami, I REALLY wanted to like Okami, and the fact that I didn’t has always bugged me, BUT, I always promised myself to give any sequel my full attention and now that said sequel is only coming out on the DS, I’m pretty bummed out about it.

I hate playing my DS and now, out of guilt, I’m going to have to play Okami 2 with a stylus.

Though I shouldn’t be too hard on Capcom, and neither should fans of the first game. At the end of the day, Okami didn’t sell well, actually it pretty much tanked and Capcom, for all their faults, would have easily been forgiven for walking away from the IP but they haven’t. Obviously it is cheaper for them to produce a DS game than it would be for them to develop for any of the major consoles so an Okami sequel, when you think about it, would have to be on the DS and could ONLY be on the DS.

Capcom are obviously testing the waters with the DS version and should it sell like, loads, then I’m sure they will be more confident with bringing Okami back to the majors when it belongs.

The rumors suggest that Okami 2 will be playable at this month’s TGS.  We’ll keep you posted…
