As the time line has changed kirk never entered the nexus and as time has no meaning there as gynan said. Kirk winds up in a distant out post and is discovered by a federation ship. With almost total memory loss and having lived with alien collonists for several years he is reunited with Spock prime who mind melds with him to return his memory ! Not too pleased with his altered history kirk prime goes a bit bad and tries to devise a way to restore the timeline ! Simply have Pine take shuttle into cosmic cloud that accelerates his aging process! ta da Shatner comes back on bridge! Great entrance sequence!
