David Goyer Talks Ghost Rider 2!

I’m not sure about the Ghost Rider sequel, the idea that Nicolas Cage is retaining his role as the flaming skull guy kind of annoys me. Now, I like Cage, his name on a poster is normally all I need to go watch one of his movies but his turn in Ghost Rider felt totally out of place. In fact, I would go as far to say that for me, Cage spoiled Ghost Rider.
But, work seems to be going ahead on the sequel though it’s not going to be a sequel in the strictest sense, from my understanding of the situation, the makers of Ghost Rider 2 are going to, for the most part, pretend that Ghost Rider never happened.
And that there is the problem for me…
If Cage is in it then it’s going to be hard to forget there’s another Ghost Rider movie out there.
Anyway, MTV caught up with director David Goyer to talk about the movie…
“It’s not exactly a reboot, I hate to say it’s more realistic, because he’s got a flaming skull for a head, but it’s a bit more stripped down and darker. It’s definitely changing tone. What ‘Casino Royale’ was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to ‘Ghost Rider. This story picks up eight years after the first film. You don’t have to have seen the first film. It doesn’t contradict anything that happened in the first film, but we’re pretending that our audience hasn’t seen the first film. It’s as if you took that same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later—he’s just in a much darker, existential place.”
