5th Cell Talk About Those Dodgy Scribblenauts Controls

scribblenauts-cow-screenshotTalking to Game Developer, 5th Cell co-founder Joseph Tringali has revealed that they knew at the end of development that the control scheme for the hit DS game Scribblenauts would receive criticism from reviewers.

“We knew this was going to take a big hit from reviewers, but we could only spend a limited amount of work on it. We discussed a secondary D-pad control option midway through development only to come to the conclusion it would take a single person 3-4 weeks to integrate it. On our self-funded schedule, that route was not an option.”

It’s good to see that they are aware that the control scheme is broken but with the sheer amount of innovation seen in Scribblenauts I suppose we can allow them a free pass on this one.
