battlefield-bad-company-2The gloves are off ladies and gentlemen, EA are officially gunning for Call of Duty.

Yep, not content with simply offering up the revamped Medal of Honor franchise for the fight, EA have thrown the upcoming Bad Company 2′s hat into the ring.

Speaking at the 37th Annual Global Media and Communications Conference in New York City today, EA CEO John Riccitiello announced officially that EA are going after Call of Duty’s crown as the king of the first person shooters.

This is what he said…

“Call of Duty, a title I’m very much targeting at taking back, started as million unit franchise, and it built to being more than 10 million. But often, in a category as competitive as this, a title can get tired.”

He then started to slowly unbutton his shirt…

“I think were at that point. And I think [Bad Company 2] represents our best opportunity of taking the first-person shooter business back from Activision.”

Through the speaker system the American National Anthem began to play…

“I think it does online better, it’s got destructible environments, and driveable vehicles, which makes it much more interesting from an open-world perspective,” he said. “I think there’s room for both, but we have our competitive juices flowing.

The audience in attendance jointly rose from their chairs and began to clap, slowly at first but with a steady rise in tempo. Riccitiello took his shirt off and began flexing his muscles rhythmically to the sound of the now deafening clapping.

“We’ve taken it back from the skate category with the Skate series. The first-person shooter genre is next.”

The crowd were at fever pitch now, some in the audience were crying while others just stood and saluted the brave CEO. He took one last deep breath, and then, at the top of his voice he screamed;

“We’re going after this with a vengeance,”

And then, satisfied that the crowd were aptly energized he leapt from the stage and performed the most glorious stage-dive ever performed at the Annual Global Media and Communications Conference.

What a moment…
