PC Magazine caught up with Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 Gameplay Programmer Paul Denning and asked him if the sequel to this year’s surprise hit would actually take place entirely in Arkham Asylum, or would we get to explore new locations next time around. This is how he replied…

“I think you’re probably right in that [Arkham Asylum]‘s almost run its course. Gotham itself is a fantastically realised fictional city and there are so many places that would be probably ideal for gameplay and great to explore.”

There have been some rumors which suggest that Batman: Arkham Asylum will be an open world sandbox game, what are your thoughts regarding the genre?

“I think sandbox games that do that well are so hard to realise. GTA is a fantastic example of one that gets it right but there are so many that get it wrong and I think you have to be so careful when you take that route.”
