Brittany Murphy RIP 1977-2009

brittany murphy rip 1977 2009Some sad news to report this morning folks, actress Brittany Murphy died yesterday at the age of 32.

It seems that the actress was suffering from flu-like symptoms and the medication she was taking to combat the illness had an adverse effect on her heart.

Now, of course, being only a day on from her passing, no one really knows for sure what ended her life and I’m not about to get into speculation territory as what killed her isn’t what we should be focusing on this morning.

What I personally should focus on is her amazing career and what her work meant to me as a film fan/nerd.

Like most people, Brittany Murphy first came to my attention back in 1995′s Clueless, now, I’m not one for those ugly duckling type chick flicks but her turn as Tai certainly got me noticing her.

The next time she showed up on my radar was when she appeared in part two of the underrated Prophecy trilogy and again; she stood out.

Now, I have to admit, not by any stretch of the imagination was I ever what you could call a ‘big fan’ of Brittany Murphy, her name alone wouldn’t get me to the cinema but I always knew that she was out there, plugging away at her job. When her name would feature in a website headline, I would always click through to the article. I know that that’s not the highest praise I could give her but it is honest refelction of how I regarded her.

Scanning IMDB this morning, I was truly shocked to see just how many movies she’d been in. Of course, there’s the 8-Mile‘s and the Sin City‘s but how didn’t I know she was in Futurama?

How did that pass me by?

She provided the voice for Gloria in Happy Feet, I totally forgot about Just Married and I had a nice memory jolt when I saw Don’t Say A Word on the list.

For nerds everywhere, we will get one last film as she’s part of Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables, she has other movies in post production but until now, I’d never heard of them.

It’s so tragic when Hollywood loses someone who arguably hadn’t peaked yet as a performer and Brittany Murphy was definitely an artist who had more to give to the world.

Over the next couple of days there will be more revelations about how Brittany Murphy died. There will be speculation and conjecture and perhaps even some sinister whispers.

At Nerdles.com, we will cover none of the above. Brittany Murphy has died and she will be no longer making movies, that’s all there is to it, how she died holds no interest to us, her name from now on at Nerdles.com  will only be mentioned in relation to her upcoming movies, we don’t want to soil her memory with graphic descriptions of how she left this Earth.

We just want to remember that she lived with us on this planet for 32 years and left one hell of a footprint. She will be remembered by people who never even met her and loved by many who did and at the end of the day isn’t that what this thing we call life really all about?
