Man, the upcoming remake of The Karate Kid looks all kind of bad. (And I’m not talking about that cool bad, I’m talking bad, bad)
Seriously, whoever thought putting Will Smith’s kid in a remake of The Karate Kid was a good idea must have been taking vast quantities of opium.
The trailer looks unbelievably crappy (though Jackie Chan, I must admit, adds a certain charm to it) and Jaden Smith just seems to act like a midgetized version of his dad spewing out “Whoahs” and “Damns” with the same annoying frequency that makes Will Smith so frustrating to watch.
Obviously The Karate Kid will find an audience who will love it but I’m guessing that anyone over the age of 18 will see it for the cynical piece of crap that it is.
And anyway, for a film called The Karate Kid, there seems to be very little Karate in it, there’s plenty of fighting but none of it looks like Karate.

this looks great, but why the use of the token term “karate” in the title? The story happens in China, the martial arts there are called WUSHU (or Kung Fu in the west). I know is to reference the original movie, but did the name need to be the same? wasn’t it enough to copy the whole plot? anyway, nice to see lots of wushu moves on the silver screen.
I personally don’t think it looks as bad as many people thought. I mean, LaRusso will always have a special place in my heart, and this won’t even touch that, so I’m just going to enjoy Chan and some kicking. Fair game, if you ask me.
