As for me,Andrea Plunket may sell her copyrights! The Sherlock Holmes 2009 was nearly bursting of the things "untrue" to the original canon. And now, exact on the moment that there can be a rather nice "experiment" she would be able to stop the sequel!?? Come on! While we are waiting so long for it. And besides, such a homosexual relation wouldn't be like the original canon but the canon doesn't denied the possibility! More, it can't be proved Holmes wasn't homosexual!
Anyhow, stop the sequel would be the most hateful thing to do!!!

Dear Gods and Goddess! This is madness! There better be a sequel, if this dumb chick is too homophobic to get over this one comment, my goodness --she's just gonna crumble out there in the real world. I'm assuming that Jr. was just messing about, because he's comfortable in himself and he can see that were was a very special relationship between the two characters. You can feel the sexual tension and the emotions, btw to the person who said something about not being able to have sexual tension because there is NO sex--well, no shit--that's why there is UST (Unresolved Sexual Tension) rather than hot boy-smex.
I think they both have special places for each other in their hearts, as well as had room for their lady friends. Society's expectations and their own moral beliefs would have kept them from being able to have any hot love--but don't worry, us fangirls are now writing them all the loving they can get. I mean, Jr and Law -- can anyone say OMFGHOT?!?!

:D

Another mature comment brought to you by the amazing Millah... muhahaha, well...least I won't hear any bitching from my friends, they get enough of these random rants as it is.

Yeah...ppl shouldn't have any sort of imagination that would just be AWFUL! :P Get over yourself, pushing 'gayness' my ass--that movie was so bloody slashable it was just ASKING for fanfiction to be made and 'squeed' over. Btw, we push 'hetness' onto everything, (seriously, ppl cling to it like their little minds would explode if they could ever consider sex without both a penis and vagina) is it so bad if some ppl took their relationship to be a bit more than friends? I saw it that way, and I loved it! Get the hell over yourself and start moving forward...bitch. :D

ps. I'm so going to go write some hot boylove, and will likely dedicate my next story to you. And yes, this was a childish response, but you know what? Society is insane, this woman sounds like a bloody idiot--if we stopped making things the minute someone mistook them then nothing would ever get done...There will always be someone saying something about one's creations that the artist super hates. But you need to MOVE ON, like JKR for Harry Potter--she supports the ff that her story inspires, as should this dumb bitch... Man, ranting just feels good.

I totally agree with you, Gloria, the movie was brilliant! All the performances were great but sadly, rachel's role was far to small for her talent AND her magnificent character, Irene Adler.
The sequel will obviously be amazing aswell and hopefully Rachel will have a bigger part to play in it!

I love the books, I love the Basil Rathbone's although truly the best versions were the Jeremy Brett ones of course.

I didn't expect to love the Guy Ritchie but Love it I did and thought it was huge fun complete escapism and actually for all the fussing by die hard fans the characters were much closer than I expected.

However I thought one of the things that worked so well was that there was an undercurrent gay relationship between Holmes and Watson, watch it again and it screams out at you and it completely works in context. Whether they are meant to be or not it doesn;t matter they are definately playing that subtext and it is perfect.

I suspect, although I do not know, that maybe Law and Downey Jr were told to play them that way.

It's not in the books and certainly not in other versions I have seen but I say fine. She was obviously protecting her back as Hollywood still think that anything "gay" cannot possibly sell to the public and it all has to be closeted.

So even if you are a staunch fan, go and see it and just forget all you know and enjoy it for what it is, a homage to a fantastic eternal character.

Respect the movie SHERLOCK HOLMES for being a great classic. Appreciate the contents, the fast action thriller, outstanding acting, and pray, no, beg for sequels.

Understand actors have a sense of humor and like any other human on the face of this earth should not be held accountable for every error in judgment, or too many times words are taken out of context.

Mr. Downey is a cut above the average actor "star quality" equates to the likes of Humphry Bogart, Gary Cooper, and Cary Grant. He is a brillant genius who has mastered his craft and excels where others attempt to achieve. Give him the allowance to be human and tell a joke without being chastised.

Sherlock Holmes star Robert Downey Jr recently claimed that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic detective could be portrayed as gay and suggested that Holmes and his loyal sidekick Dr Watson actually share a homoerotic relationship.
In true Downey Jr fashion he actually went one step further and called Holmes a “butch homosexual”

Dude, whoever wrote this article (whoever "Sock" is) is a complete MORON. Did you even WATCH the Letterman show where he "called Holmes a 'butch homosexual'"? If you did, I'm sorry for you, having to live a life with such little intelligence and inability to understand humor, or even English. He NEVER said in the show that Holmes was gay, he said he COULD be for all he knows. For Pete's sake, he was JOKING! You sock, are an embarrassment to this website. First time visit for me, and I'll not be coming back. Good job.

I doubt highly it was a publicity stunt, or that he was suggesting it, more likely mr. downey junior was making a joke to keep himself entertained during the countless hours of interviews regarding the film. She's a moron because she's trying to pretend she's not homophobic, and she's sucks at it. Also, I doubt she's related to sir arthur conan doyle, I suspect she purchased the rights at some point.
