Bi-Weekly Bugle – Issue 3
So I think this column may be a bit late, but never mind, eh? It was because I had plans to write it Wednesday night, but ended up watching Avatar instead. And no, I won’t be reviewing/talking about Avatar, except for the fact that it is as good as every 5* review it’s been given by Empire, Total Film, or whoever it is you choose to read. And although some jerk-offs who call me a faggot often will say, the editing in this is the best editing I’ve seen outside of an Aronofsky film. So go see it. And be wowed.
I don’t really have much to say this week; I haven’t seen or played anything, so I’m just going to compile some lists. And hopefully I’ll have seen all the Oscar films in time for a bit of an Oscar column in the New Year.
So here’s my top five films of 2009.
- 5. Fantastic Mr Fox
- 4. Up
- 3. (500) Days Of Summer
- 2. Star Trek
- 1. Moon
Five fo(u)r Twenty-ten.
5. The Fighter – Sadly, the film is in post-production now and there weren’t any signs of trouble on set, because I was pretty sure that Bale and Marky Mark would smashed him up. Still, David O Russell usually makes pretty compelling films, even for a douchebag.
4. Up In The Air – Thank you for smoking was good, Juno was better, so I’m hoping a bit of Clooney makes it great. The trailer looks good, and it’s got some Oscar buzz so that’s reassuring, fingers crossed it’ll be decent.

3. Green Zone – Greengrass + Damon + Iraq = (Bourne + war). Which sounds genius.

2. Iron Man 2 – Matt Fraction & Justin Theroux being the writers, this one I’m slightly worried about: The first one was great because it was handled well in the scripting stages, this could either do really well or fall flat on its back, if it’s not treated as set piece upon set piece with humour, it’ll be outstanding.

1. Inception – Nolan hasn’t let me down yet, and Leo doesn’t act badly. Ever. And the second trailer was just released and was outstanding. The whole Nolan crew are back: Pfister , Zimmer, his missus…. IMAX cameras. Epic.
