New episodes of Futurama will debut on Comedy Central in June in the US, according to HitFix.

The show went off the air in 2003 after a four-year run on Fox. Comedy Central and Adult Swim aired reruns of the series following its cancellation.

The programme later returned in a string of direct-to-DVD movies, which subsequently aired on Comedy Central.

After solid ratings for the reruns and good DVD sales, the cable network announced that it ordered 26 new episodes of the series last year.

The show’s core cast of Billy West, John DiMaggio and Katey Sagal are returning for the new episodes, which premiere June 24 at 10pm.
