Sebastian Stan has been cast as Captain America’s faithful sidekick Bucky Barnes.

Stan, who had a stint in Gossip Girl will join Chris Evans in Marvel’s upcoming superhero flick which is thought to be set during World War 2.

Bucky Barnes; for those of you unfamiliar with the character, was a young orphan who was too young to fight for the army against the Nazis back in good old WW2 so was used as a Mascot to lift morale amongst the troops instead. It wasn’t long before Bucky learnt the secret identity of Captain America and then bugged him to allow him to be the Cap’s sidekick. And the rest as they say is history…

The First Avenger: Captain America will be directed by Joe Johnston and hits cinemas on July 22nd, 2011.
