According to Deadline.com; Geek God Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Dollhouse/Firefly) is in final negotiations with Marvel studios to direct the long-planned Avengers movie which is scheduled to hit cinemas on May 4th, 2012.

The Avengers movie will feature many of Marvel’s most iconic superheroes from Robert Downey’s Iron Man to Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Chris Evans’ Captain America.

If you’re wondering why I didn’t include Ed Norton’s Hulk it’s because I really can’t see Ed Norton ever reprising the not-so-jolly-green-giant role even for a movie as big as The Avengers is going to be.

Expect some official confirmation from Marvel on Whedon’s involvement soon folks…
