Guinness World Records has officially declared the release of Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as being the most successful entertainment launch of all time.

Amazingly, Modern Warfare 2’s first days’ sales came to a whopping $401.6 million (which is £242.4 million to our UK readers) which broke the previous record, held by GTA IV which came to a “paltry” $310 million.

Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling had this to say about the honor…

The Call of Duty series and Modern Warfare have been our passion – we’ve dedicated our lives to giving our best, so it’s an honour to be recognised by setting a new standard among all entertainment properties.”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released back on November 5th of last year on the Xbox 360 and PS3.
