Bill Murray Says All That GhostBusters 3 Talk Doesn’t Mean AnythingBill Murray has been talking about the status of Ghostbusters 3 and in particular his frustration at the lack of movement on the movie.

“All this talk is just talk. It drives me nuts, it’s just people talking. Until someone actually creates a great script it’s just hogwash, it doesn’t mean anything. It’s interesting that people are interested in it, they’d like to see it. It was a great thing, it really was fun. Maybe it should [happen]. And if it’s such a good idea, then someone will write the screenplay.”

Hopefully someone will turn in a Ghostbusters 3 script before Bill gets too pissed off an walks away from the project altogether…

no, i’ve never had time to play the new game and forgot they even got made. as a kid i liked the old one on the c64 a lot.

  2. T says:

speaking of that.. have u tried any of the ghostbuster games on wii or ps3… did they do the film justice??

  3. T says:

yes legends did have an english release both on n64 and ps1 but not sure if it was US or European or both for that matter… it had great music and a really nice feel to it all…

ff7 was indeed a better game than 8 and its fighting system was much better. the best turn based fighting system ive ever used…

shadow of the colossus a great masterpiece yes… its raw simplicity, masterfully done, is literally an artistic vision made into an experience… although lacking much of conventional content of the typical great game, its simplicity is driven by artistic vision and therefore justifiable. the experience speaks for itself… it may be short also, but quality over quantity…

mario galaxy was great… but i wish another mario 64 style game would come out… we all know that mario64 originated games like: Banjo Kazooie, DK64, Banjo Tooie, Conkers Bad Fur Day. this style of game is easliy one of, if not my most favourite style… video games in the purest sense. pure fun packed into a cartridge…

DQ VIII… i bought it because it looks amazing but havent tried it yet… so i cant say…

i just wish some one would bring out a Berserk game on Wii and let us swing Guts’s sword… that would be a great game for wii’s control system… sadly the chance of that happening is probably around 1%

Yes, the Batman 1989 Score is great. But overall I prefer the new Series and find the music to be very fitting to the style.

I’d have to add The Shadow of the Colossus to that list. Never was there a game before where I really didn’t want to do something I knew was necessary, where it felt much more than simple polygons and textures on my screen.

Yes, luckily there are still masterpieces coming out. But they seem so rare. Probably because there are a lot more games released today than 10-15 years ago, or even 5 years ago.

But that makes finding a real great game all the better, in my opinion.
The game I had the most fun with this generation was Super Mario Galaxy, a really magical experience for me.

I have never played MMLegends, not even sure if it came out in Europe back then?
As for FF8, I really couldn’t get into that one. I was fine with the Junctionsystem, but I didn’t like the Characters. Loved Part 9, though. As for Part 7, well, that’s the game I had to buy a playstation for and if it had been the only game I ever played on the system it would have been worth it. :)

May I ask how you liked Dragon Quest VIII on the PS2? My favorite RPG on that system, but it seems either people didn’t like it or never played it.

Yeah music has gone down the drain too!… i use the Nolan Batman films as an example of not very good music!!!… i felt that they were just too generic… but sometimes something grabs you for some reason, and i probably like a soundtrack somewhere that isnt really too great in other peoples opinion…
i mean listen to 1989 batmans soundtrack… now that is a soundtrack… yeah, anyway,, its true that music is really important and its also not as good anymore!!!

As with anything, when it becomes about making money it gets ruined… i mean anything has to be about making money, lets be realistic. But what i mean is when something becomes driven PRIMARILY just to get some cash…

Games on the other hand… yes definately losing their magic too (i sound so negative all the time!!!)… i mean im not going to lie and say “yeh rpgs of today are just as good as FF7 or FF8″… they dont even come close…

HOWEVER, there are still some masterpieces being brought out… eg Twilight Princess, MGS4, Okami, Yakuza 3… see i wish that capcom would make another Megaman Legends… but with the kind of stuff being demanded these days (predominantly first person shooters) i doubt it would happen. Legends was just magical (especially for its time)…

The best games evermade… hmm to name two: Ocarina of Time and FF7… Hard to get something so excellent and well balanced ever again… what do you think?

  6. Mungo says:

Haha, never thought about mini Protopacks. You’re right, surely their Busting equipment must be getting updated too, perhaps Spengler can work something out after they put on their old ones and find out that they are not that young anymre :)

About movies losing their magic in the past 10 years, that’s something I discuss with friends pretty often, people I’ve grown up with, with whom we gathered around our TVs and watched Ninja Turtles, played Nintendo, stuff like that.
We hardly reach a satisfying conclusion, but most of the time we can agree that then it were good actors and a good story that made a good movie, now it’s lots of special effects and pretty actors that make a successful movie.
the first thing probably holds true still, but seems less important. it’s all about the pressure of making more money, the sequel has to be more successful than it’s predecessor.

Another thing that bothers me with movies nowadays are their soundtracks. My favorite example is Avatar. The music is so boring, it made me want to skip some parts when I watched it a second time.
If I think about Terminator, the Main Theme comes to mind. Or the “dam-dam-dam-dam” whenever the Terminator is present on screen.
Or think about Aliens, the scene where the marines meet the aliens for the first time, Ripley drives in to get them out. If you don’t know the tune, check out James Horner’s “Futile Escape”, beginning at 3:13.
    I could go on forever…
But I don’t mean to be hating on Avatar, it’s just that I can’t think of any great soundtracks in the past decade, apart from The Lord of the Rings and maybe Christopher Nolan’s Batman series. Original Soundtracks only.

But it’s not only movies that seem to get worse, for me that also applies to videogames: Hardly any game in the past few years really entertained me the way games did 10-15 years ago. Sure, some were great, but they didn’t feel like worlds I’d want to lose myself in, but products designed to make money.
Instead of “oh, I can’t go there” I think “oh, the programmers didn’t intended for me to go there”.
There was a time when everybody hated Tomb Raider, because the next sequel would arrive after about a year with small differences, now many franchises do that and it expected.
There was a time when a sequel was announced, it had to look better, sound better and play better, a full priced expansion pack wasn’t enough.

At least this made me learn programming and try to create games myself :)
Oh, and if some of this sounds like an excuse for the studios, it’s not.

I dont think its unknown that good actors are rare and running out…

I think its 100% ok for an actor to be new to the scene… as long as they can pull it off… example: Furlong in Terminator 2… he was near on perfect as John Conner… I couldnt imagine any one else…

Alot of people say that it is a nostalgic feeling which makes us love the films we watched while growing up… I dont agree. We may have been children one day are fond of our memories. However, it is safe to say that we are able to judge things objectively!

Today, i doubt you would ever get a first time actor doing as good a job as furlong did… (it needs to be noted that T2 has strong actors, plot and script which helped!!)… either there isnt the same kind of supply of actors as before or the casting process these days is not having successful results…

anyways tastes change with the times and i get the impression that alot of kids are enjoying these new films!! perhaps they dont know about the 80s and 90s movies. theyre not exposed to it like we were. furthermore the culture of today demands that they watch these new films… not only films, tv programmes are crapper. we had Bill Bixby’s (may he rest in peace) Incredible hulk, we had TMNT cartoon, The Wonder Years, Fresh Prince, The Cosby Show ect ect… so its not just films… kids dont know what theyre missing… literally… (i sound old!!)

new films like transformers for example,,, theyre not bad… watchable… but not like what we had growing up… not even close… eg. Turtles movies, Batman 1989, Karate Kid movies, Ghostbusters movies and so on …. to be fair, its not just down to the actors… plotlines, scripts, even direction and so on are not as good (generally speaking) as they used to be.

I think after 2000 films noticably started to lose their magic… dont get me wrong. some amazing films were made after 2000 and will still be made. but they are much rarer.

We may be getting older. But that doesnt mean we cant judge films properly. Some films i adored as a kid, i just cannot watch them anymore. Others that i loved, i still love until today things like Tom Thumb (Tamblyn).

so that answers your question i hope! Essentially, its got nothing to do with us getting older. Just follow your gut instinct,,, films are getting crapper and crapper… unfortunately… actors cant take all the blame though,,, I sincerely doubt we’ll see the quality of acting and film that we’ve already had (most of which before the 2000s)… and thats across all the genres… thank God that the greats like Nicholson, Al Pacino, are still making films…
Hopefully Bill, Dan , Harold and Ernie will do this one…

Regarding Ghostbusters 3… if it should even be called that…
i saw Dan Akroid in a recent video interview. he does not look that old. and Bill’s got enough spark to do this.. the man cant run out of charm or energy… as Dan said once: he is half the movie… i mean, without these guys, there is no film. it would lose its substance. The chemistry on camera between the guys is primarily a result of them. not any plot or script (of course these need to be good). this was one of the films strongest points. if they get new actors, however good they are, it would kill the film for me… it shouldnt be called ghostbusters…

this thing about them hurting themselves (their lower backs presumabley) after sliding down the pole could actually work for light comedy eg having Bill and the others make some funny remarks here and there about their aches and pains… just cz theyre old, dsnt mean their weak. they can carry those proton packs easy. if not just have them carry new improved 2010 version mini packs ;)

  8. Mungo says:

you’re right about the stunts, but these protopacks are heavy… i simply can’t see four 60 year olds putting them on and running after ghosts… or sliding down a pole without breaking something. :)
and i suppose, if it’s a big movie with special effects, stuff has to explode and people get thrown around…

i know what you mean with young actors, and with fresh faces i didn’t really mean “young”. it bothers me too, that all the leading roles in big blockbusters seem to be fresh out of highschool when you compare films to the 80s. or is it just us, getting older?

  9. T says:

oh yeah… furthermore, ghostbusters was never about stunts.
Terminator and Indian Jones movies are way more about stunts. so your comparison isnt really adequate in that sense.

  10. T says:

If it worked for Solid Snake to be old… why cant it work for these guys… they can pull it off… a new cast of young actors?! thats far worse… sorry but actors these days cant do these sorts of roles too well… theyre crap pretty much… this film was made during a sort of legendary golden age for films…. anyway…….. its much better to portray a mature ghostbuster group who are abit washed up maybe? perhaps some social drama to balance out what may be missing in terms of young energy and it would make more sense seeing as theyre all older… it could really work,,, i can just imagine a scene of them wiping the dust off their old proton packs… and one of them asking,,, can we still do this?? …. and then sound of it powering up.. “biiiiiiiing”….!!!!!!…. COME ON,,, BILL MURRAYs cheeky smile would just win over all…

  11. griff says:

I think I actually agree with you on this one Mungo. In my opinion; a fresh new Ghostbusters would be preferable to bringing the old gang back, that way my childhood memories won’t get ruined like my Indy ones have.

  12. Mungo says:

    Damn, clicked to fast, again…

i don’t mean to sound too hateful, it’s not like everything was batter 15-20 years ago. But I think that Ghostbusters is something, that would make more sense as a remake or reboot with fresh faces.
The could probably pull off a great trilogy of movies, when they start something new.

  13. Mungo says:

Now this is a movie I really hope never gets made. I love Bill Murray and Ghostbusters is one of my favorite childhood movies that still holds up for me today, but I really don’t think that they can pull off a worthy sequel.

The actors are simply too old, I still shudder when I think of films like T3 oder Indy4. It was so obvious when they used stund doubles or when Arnold/Ford did their stunts themselves… It looked like crap.
