Kick-Ass Director Lands X-Men: First Class Gig
Fox has announced that Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn has picked up directorial duties on X-Men: First Class, the upcoming X-Men reboot.
Originally it was thought that X-Men and X2 director Bryan Singer would sit in the director’s chair but he had to step aside when a commitment to make Giant Killer (a movie adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk) for Warner Bros ruled him out of contention though he is still attached to produce.
Variety caught up with Bryan Singer, who spoke of his respect for Vaughn’s previous work…
“I’ve been a fan of Vaughn’s since ‘Layer Cake. He has a deft hand with multiple characters and storylines, and a great love of the X-Men universe. I feel the combination of this story and his vision will make for an exciting and original ‘X-Men’ film.”
The plot for X-Men: First Class is expected to detail the era when Professor Xavier and Magneto were still working side-by-side, back when they shared the close friendship that was so often alluded to in the X-Men movie trilogy; back before they became the bitter enemies we now know them to be.
X-Men: First Class will hit cinemas on June 3rd, 2011
