The Planet Of The Apes Prequel Gets A Green-light And A 2011 Release Date

Fox have revealed that the long-rumoured Planet of the Apes prequel; Rise of the Apes has been given the green-light ahead of a proposed June, 2011 release date.

The release date in particular seems a bit rushed when you take into consideration that no production work has begun on the movie.

The last time Planet of the Apes hit the cinemas was back in 2001 and saw Tim Burton give his take on the classic franchise.

This time around, directorial responsibilities are expected to go to The Escapist director Rupert Wyatt while The Hand That Rocks the Cradle writer Amanda Silver and her husband Rick Jaffa are expected to bash out the screenplay.

The plot for Rise of the Apes, according to Entertainment Weekly, will focus on how the Apes become intelligent after a genetic engineering experiment goes wrong which results in the Apes developing the intelligence that allowed them to revolt and take over the planet.

Unlike Tim Burton’s 2001 vision, Rise of the Apes is expected to use completely computer generated Apes as opposed to actors wearing dodgy Ape suits and early rumours suggest that it will be filmed in 3D.
