Hollywood action legends Jean Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren have both signed up for a fourth Universal Soldier movie.

The last movie in the franchise; Universal Soldier: Regeneration went straight to DVD last year even though it was generally well-received. Directed by John Hyams and set in Eastern Europe, US: Regeneration had a very Bourne-feel to it and was, in this writer’s humble opinion, superior to 1999’s Universal Soldier: The Return in almost every way.

John Hyams will return to direct Soldier IV which is due to begin production in October ready for a 2011 release.

As well as series’ regulars’ Jean Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren, last year’s Universal Soldier: Regeneration also starred former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei ‘The Pitbull’ Arlovski as a deadly Unisol soldier. It is not expected that Arlovski will return for the fourth movie.

Again, as is fast becoming the norm these days, Universal Soldier IV will be in 3D. Foresight Unlimited will produce.
