Rumours claiming that Sony are about to announce a PSP 2 have picked up pace after a senior industry source told MCV that an unnamed publisher is waiting for Sony to unveil the new handheld console so that they can start planning marketing strategies for the device.

“No imminent plans to launch a new PSP”

With Nintendo expected to show off their 3DS at E3 it wouldn’t be beyond the realms of possibility for Sony to swoop in and steal Nintendo’s thunder with a PSP 2 reveal.

The PSP is now six years old which means that if Sony aren’t working on a PSP 2 right now then they’re either A; going to pull out of the handheld market altogether or B: not quite ready to unveil it publically.

My gut is going with B
