Captain America: The First Avenger – Why It’s Being Filmed In The UK
Some of you may think that filming something as uniquely American as Captain America: The First Avenger is in the UK is somewhat of a strange decision, but in a recent interview with the LA Times; Marvel Studios (recently bought out by Walt Disney Co.) explained their reasons.
Here are some excerpts from the interview…
So, why London?
[We] concluded that London was the best location for “Captain America,” largely because the story is set in Europe and will feature a number of scenes in London such as Piccadilly Circus, and also because of favorable tax incentives.
Why not split the production between the US and the UK?
Though Marvel could have done the stage work in L.A. and shot exteriors in London, it wasn’t economically feasible to split the production between two locations, given the heavy filming required in Europe, said Marvel Studios co-President Louis D’Esposito, who oversees physical production.
So there you have it…
Captain America: The First Avenger is directed by Joe Johnston and stars Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving and Samuel L Jackson. It is expected to hit cinemas on July 22nd 2011.
