Shrek Forever After Goes Straight In At No1 In The US Box Office Charts
Shrek Forever After; DreamWorks 3D family CGI movie stormed to the top of the American box office this weekend.
Taking a less-than-expected 20.8 million dollars on its first day of release; Shrek Forever After; the fourth movie in the Shrek franchise saw off competition from Universal’s action comedy; MacGrubber which could only hit fourth place.
Shrek Forever After DreamWorks hoped; would take 100 million this weekend but if Friday’s tally’s are correct then it will be difficult for the movie to hit the much-coveted 100 million dollar opening weekend mark.
Shrek The Third currently holds the record for the franchise’s biggest opening weekend when it took a mighty 121.6 million when it was released three years ago back in 2007.
Shrek Forever After stars the franchise’s regulars Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Antonio Banderas, Eddie Murphy, John Cleese and Julie Andrews. It is directed by Sky High director Mike Mitchell.
It opens in the UK on July 2nd.
