According to Robbie Bach, Microsoft’s outgoing head of E&D, the upcoming motion capturing add-on device for the Xbox 360; Project Natal will revitalise the consoles’ sales which will negate the need for Microsoft to release a brand new video game console.

Talking to Tech Flash, Bach said…

“If you think we have, what, close to 40 million consoles in the world, and every one of those consoles can work with Natal. So, there’s a tremendous opportunity from a business perspective to produce a new experience for people without shipping a new console.”

He went on to add that he sees Project Natal as a “mid-life” kicker for the 360…

“For me it’s a jump-start catalyst. It’s a mid-life kicker for the 360, and it’s an opportunity to really drive that business in a dramatic way.”

Microsoft’s Project Natal is expected to have a massive presence at next month’s E3.
