The interesting Real Steel production is beginning to gear up after Hope Davis, James Rebhorn and Olga Fonda all added their names to a cast which already included Hugh Jackman, Lost’s Evangeline Lily, Kevin Durand and Anthony Mackie.

For those of you who have never heard of Real Steel; it sees Hugh Jackman star as a former fighter who lives in a futuristic world were gladiatorial robots duke it out in the name of entertainment. Jackman’s character discovers he has a son he didn’t know existed and also discovers a broken robot warrior which has been left on a scrapheap, who Jackman then subsequently retrains for combat in the robot gladiator arena.

To me this project sounds like a mix between 90’s cult mech classic; Robot Jox meets Rocky and I can’t wait to see it.

Production on Real Steel is due to get underway this month and yes; it’s going full-on 3D in much the same way that James Cameron’s Avatar did.

It’s expected to be released on November 18th, 2011.
