Sherlock Holmes 2 has officially been given a release date…

December 16, 2011.

At this moment in time no details have been released about the sequel to last year’s reboot of the classic literary detective; Sherlock Holmes which was directed by Guy Ritchie and starred Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law.

It is expected that both Downey Jr and Law will return but as far as I can ascertain that has yet to be confirmed though I highly doubt that the studio would have given the movie a greenlight without locking in the signatures of both stars.

We can expect an announcement any day now that Sherlock Holmes 2 will be filmed in 3D. (I can’t wait until 3D stops becoming news)

The December release date puts Sherlock Holmes 2 in direct competition with Alvin and the Chipmunks 3D and Mission Impossible IV.

I know who my money is on to win the Christmas Box Office battle of 2011.
