“I was scared and confused during the interrogations and wanted to get away,” van der Sloot told A Dutch newspaper during an interview. “In my blind panic, I signed everything, but didn’t even know what it said.”

Originally, van der Sloot confessed to the murder of Stephany Flores, the daughter of well known Peruvian businessman, Ricardo Flores.

Van der Sloot is also suspected in the disappearance of Alabama teenager, Natalee Holloway while she was on a senior high school class trip in Aruba. She was last seen with him after they met in a casino.

Flores met van der Sloot in a casino as well. Her murder took place exactly 5 years to the day after Holloway’s disappearance.

“I was tricked,” van der Sloot was quoted as saying about the confession, “I’ll explain later how it all happened.”

If convicted, he will face between 15 and 35 years in a Peruvian prison. Van der Sloot’s mother reportedly said she would not be surprised if he committed murder as he is mentally ill.
